Role: Fire and Security Small Works Engineer

Location: Birmingham

Salary: £29,000 - £35,000 per annum

Technical Resources are seeking a Fire and Security Small Works Engineer in Birmingham to carry out small works across multiple site locations. This key role requires someone who is committed to delivering high-quality installations, ensuring all work is carried out efficiently, cost-effectively, and in compliance with company health and safety policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Installation, testing, and commissioning of small works on Intruder Alarm Systems (wired and wireless), CCTV Surveillance Systems, Access Control, and Fire Systems.
  • Work according to electrical layouts and building plans, following NSI, industry standards, and relevant Codes of Practice/Policies.
  • Provide methodical and efficient quality installations, including digesting detailed scope of works and working drawings.
  • Attend site meetings when required and liaise with customers and external agencies such as Alarm Receiving Centres and Manufacturer Technical Support.
  • Produce high-quality commissioning and handover documentation and as-fitted drawings.
  • Ensure a safe work environment, adhering to Method and Risk Assessments, and safe working procedures.
  • Provide client training and demonstrate systems, explaining working functionality.
  • Participate in the emergency call-out rota (optional for small works engineers).
  • Maintain your vehicle and stock levels to ensure client demands are met.

Experience and Certifications Required:

  • Educated to GCSE / Standard Grade level (minimum).
  • Electrically aware and capable of working with various electronic systems and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to install and commission a wide range of systems, including CCTV cameras, DVRs, NVRS, Intruder alarms, and fire alarm systems.
  • Fire BS5839 standards Parts 1 & 5 (ideal).
  • Able to work efficiently independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Willing to travel to various sites as required.
  • Travel will be required to fulfil the role.
  • Call out is 1 in 8 but is optional for small works engineers.
